New parents get a lot of things for the baby and almost nothing for themselves, which is why flowers land so well in that first fortnight. Soft and pretty, or bright and cheerful, all designed by hand in our Rancho Peñasquitos shop and delivered by our own drivers.

Since 1974, our family owned, full-service flower shop has been helping San Diego get its sentiments across through flowers and plants, from the day to day occasions to the once in a lifetime ones. Four Seasons Flowers was started in September 1974 in Poway by Barbara Bertran, my mother, in a warehouse our family owned. Today we serve the greater San Diego area from our Rancho Peñasquitos shop in the Vons center.
New baby deliveries are the cheerful end of the day, and after fifty years we have made a great many of them.
Usually, but check first. Some maternity and neonatal units in San Diego restrict fresh flowers and a few do not allow them at all, particularly around NICU. We need the mother’s full name as the hospital has it, the hospital, and the room if you know it. Also bear in mind how fast people are discharged now. If they may be home within a day or two, send it to the house.
The home, most of the time. Hospital rooms are small, the family is juggling a lot, and everything has to be carried out to the car. Something waiting at the house, or arriving in the second week when the visitors have thinned out and it has gone quiet, tends to be remembered more.
Something the parents can enjoy without maintaining it. A compact arrangement they do not have to rearrange, a low fragrance mix so it is not competing in a small room, and a plush or a box of chocolates alongside it. Soft pinks, blues, creams and whites are the traditional route, but bright and modern reads just as well.
Yes, and it is a genuinely good idea. The older sibling is having a strange week too. Add a plush or a small gift addressed to them and we will label it separately so it is clearly theirs. Just tell us the name in the order notes.
